AEG repairs: is the monthly plan worth it?

AEG’s repair plan starts at about £222 for the first year, compared with £129–£199 for a one-off repair. The plan also covers later breakdowns and can include a replacement appliance. But that replacement promise starts only after the engineer has fixed the fault you are booking now.

These services are for an appliance that has already broken. Before buying either, check its existing warranty or protection plan: you may already have a repair paid for. AEG’s standard manufacturer’s warranty lasts two years.

An expired warranty does not necessarily end your rights against the retailer. If the appliance was faulty when sold, the seller may still owe you a repair or replacement. After the first six months, you may need to show that the fault was present at purchase; ordinary wear is different. GOV.UK explains the rules on faulty goods.

What does the monthly option add?

AEG advertises one-off repairs at £129–£199, depending on the appliance, and Repair & Care from £18.49 a month. Both arrange an engineer to fix the current problem. The plan, provided by Domestic & General, then covers eligible further faults during the year.

Extra cost at the plan’s advertised starting price
Your one-off quoteTwelve monthly paymentsExtra for the plan
£129£221.88£92.88
£199£221.88£22.88

Your appliance may be quoted more than £18.49 a month. Every extra £1 adds £12 to the first-year cost, so get both prices before choosing.

If the repair works and nothing else goes wrong, the one-off service leaves you with the difference. If an additional covered fault needs a paid repair, the plan may earn that money back. With a £199 repair quote, the extra cover starts at about £23. With a £129 quote, it costs almost three-quarters as much as the repair itself. The one-off repair quote determines how much extra you are paying for the later cover.

Limits on the initial repair

The plan’s promise of a new appliance does not apply to the breakdown you are booking now. AEG’s service page places replacement cover after the first completed repair.

If the engineer cannot complete the initial repair
Initial-repair termsOne-off repairRepair & Care
Contractual repair limit£500 for necessary labour and parts£250 for the initial repair
RefundPayment returned less £80Full refund; plan cancelled
Replacement appliance included?NoNo

The lower limit means the plan can reject work that the one-off service could cover. The limit applies to the provider’s assessment of the work required. It is separate from your booking price: a £199 booking can cover work assessed at more than £250.

If neither service can repair the appliance, the plan’s full refund leaves you £80 better off. If the plan rejects a repair that the one-off service would have covered, you would need another booking. Available appointments may matter as much as the price when the appliance is out of use.

A repeat fault may already be covered

The one-off repair includes a three-month repair guarantee. Its replacement parts are guaranteed for twelve months. Under the full terms, a failed replacement part after day 90 can be supplied free, or AEG can arrange a technician visit at half the original repair price.

For a £199 repair, that later visit costs £99.50; for a £129 repair, £64.50. A repeat problem therefore does not always mean paying for another full-price repair. Cover for a new fault elsewhere in the appliance is an additional benefit of the plan.

After a successful initial repair, the plan can provide a similar new appliance if an approved later repair is impossible or uneconomic. Delivery is included, but installation is your responsibility and disposal may cost extra. That can be more valuable than a repair alone—particularly if replacing the appliance would be difficult to fund.

Cancelling after the repair may leave a bill

Cancelling after the first monthly payment may still leave charges for the repair. The cancellation terms allow charges for services already provided, plus £15 administration, subject to the plan’s stated cap. Monthly payments spread the cost; the first-year total remains the figure to compare with a one-off repair.

This year’s price buys an immediate repair as well as later cover. At renewal, you are paying to cover a working appliance, so reassess the full annual price against future repair and replacement costs.

Sources and calculations

Prices checked 14 October 2026. £18.49×12 = £221.88; £221.88−£199 = £22.88; £221.88−£129 = £92.88. The differences assume the minimum advertised plan price is actually offered. £92.88÷£129 = 72%. Half of £199 is £99.50; half of £129 is £64.50.

The one-off repair guarantees described here are those in AEG’s full contract terms. Both services have exclusions and eligibility conditions. No claim is made about the probability of a subsequent fault or which service will accept a particular repair.
